Cigar Smoking Etiquette
- Always ask permission
- Bring enough to share
- Never light another gentleman’s cigar
- Remove the band at the right time
- When you should remove the band is a laborious argument with a good case for both sides. Some people will remove the band when they are halfway through their cigar as the heat will have warmed the glue so it is easier to remove without damaging the cigar. Others will leave the band on because it shows everyone the quality cigar they are smoking. There is no right or wrong way of doing this. The best thing to do is to look at the group you’re smoking with and if they start removing their bands then it may be the best for you to do so at the same time. If you are enjoying a cigar that is of a much better quality than those around you, then you may wish to remove the band to not draw attention to that fact.
- Know how to hold your cigar. A cigar is not a cigarette, and is not help between your middle finger and index finger. It is held between your index finder and thumb, and using your cigar to point at anything is considered dangerous and rude by the cigar smoking community.
- Never chew your cigar. Chewing your cigar is a big social faux-pas. It will dampen the wrapper which makes it more likely that the cigar is going to fall to pieces when you smoke it. chewing a cigar also makes a mess and you get tobacco in your mouth and down your shirt. It will also make the tobacco damp which will restrict the air flow and affect he flavour of your cigar. It is also considered rude to talk with your cigar in your mouth.
